Instant Feedback Facility (IFF)
We want to hear from our students. If you have any comment or suggestion on any aspect of this module (or any module) please send it to: p.ferrington@liv.ac.uk . Make sure that you clearly mark your e-mail message "IFF - Instant Feedback Facility"
1. Module information
Much of the information relating to this module is publicly available over the Internet at:
http://www.liv.ac.uk/managementschool/undergraduate/current_students.htm
At this page you can select “Electronic Module Catalogue” and then select the required module (EBUS301). Here you will find information such as the aims, learning outcomes and syllabus as well as the number and weighting of assessments.
There will be a split in the organisation of this module defined by the two lecturers on the module. For the first 6 weeks you will have a 2 hour lecture slot, and a 3 hour tutorial slot. These tutorial slots will be based upon small group activities in a fish bowl setting. They will allow you to experience the type of group activity you should expect on Assessment Centres most organisations run in their recruitment drives. They will also allow you to ease yourself back into university study after the long summer and act as a reminder of what is required at this level of study. For the second half of the module there will only be lectures, and these will take place during the three hour slot that was the tutorial slot. This will be explained in greater detail in the first week.
If you are having problems and feel you need additional help, please email the lecturer concerned or see him at the end of a lecture.
2. Module Leader and Contact Details
Name of module leader – Simon Snowden; ssnowden@liv.ac.uk; Tel: 0151-7953603
Office address and office hours of module leader – Room: FE6. Office hours specified on office door. It is very acceptable to use email to ask questions 24/7, after all this is an e-Business module!
Names and contact details of any additional teaching staff involved with the module. - Dr Hossein Sharifi 0151-7953622. H.Sharifi@liv.ac.uk. Room FE14. Email to arrange a meeting and it is very acceptable to use email to ask questions.
3. Assessment
This module is 100% continuously assessed by two coursework assignments, there is not an examination. Each assignment is weighted 50%. Two detailed ‘assignment specification sheets’ will be posted on Vital to explain what is required. These will specify the deadlines for the assignments. The standard marking criteria in the undergraduate handbook will be applied. Further guidance on what is being looked for in your reports will be given in the sheets.
It should be noted that this is a research-led, level-3 module. It does not follow one particular textbook, although some are recommended (in the module description and lecture notes) to help you with general reading. Although you will be given quite detailed assignment sheets for this module, at level-3 you are expected to undertake more open-ended assignments and to take the initiative, as they say. We are not looking for you to produce a synopsis of textbook material, but rather your own fresh analysis of contemporary case studies.
1st Assignment
4th November 12Noon – hand-in details TBC - Draft hand-in for formative feedback. If it isn't in on this date it will not be looked at. This is not a mandatory hand-in date. You are not expected to hand-in work for formative assessment, only do this if you want to.
This will consist of
Page 1 Introduction and Conclusion
Page 2 Bulleted list of paragraphs (single sentence one line long) in narrative order.
Page 3 Reference list (all of the works cited in your paper only, NOT all works read).
There will be group/generic feedback. If the student wants individual feedback they are welcome to visit me during my office hours on a first come first served basis.
18th November 12Noon - Completed work for assessment. As I mark the work I will place generic feedback on VITAL. This should assist in planning your next assignment.
This coursework requires dual submission. You must hand in a hard copy to the Student Support Office (post into the black submission boxes outside the office). You must also submit a soft copy via Turnitin, which is a plagiarism and collusion detection system. If you do not submit to Turnitin your work will not be marked. Failure to submit an identical version via Turnitin compared to your hard copy will attract a penalty of 10 marks.
To submit via Turnitin, you go to the assessment area for the module on VITAL and you will find a link for the coursework. Click on View/Complete and then on the “submit” icon for the paper. You are then prompted to submit a title for the paper. Use the “browse” button to locate the file you want to submit, then click “submit”. You will then be asked to confirm that you want to submit by clicking the “Yes, submit” button.
Key penalties
ñ -5% of total marks for every day late to a maximum of 5 days. After that a zero mark.
ñ upto -5% of total marks for poor referencing. This is expected to be in the Harvard style.
ñ -3% of total marks for every 100 words over the word count.
ñ 5% of the overall mark available for the piece of work will be deducted if an essay is presented in a form that makes it difficult to read e.g. if not word-processed, in a font of less than 12 pts, in single spacing or with inadequate margins. For example, if a piece of work is marked out of 100, you will lose 5 marks, if it is out of 60, you will lose 3 marks etc.
ñ -10% if the paper and electronic copies are not identical.
ñ I will not impose a penalty for the use of wikipedia, but students should be aware that it is an inappropriate source for this level of studies and will be an indicator of the works quality.
ñ The above can be found in the ULMS Student Handbook.
Penalties cannot take the student below 40%
