FindBad, version 1.5. Copyright Svend Olaf Mikkelsen, 2003. Findbad <disknumber> [<from cylinder> <to cylinder>] [<log file>] [first | firstlast] [writef6] [allowwrites <no of sectors>] Searches for bad sectors. Disks are numbered from 1. If many bad sectors are detected, you may want to stop the search (try ctrl-break) and find other solutions for evaluating the condition. It is recommended to run in pure DOS. Log file extension must be .txt. The option 'first' will only show the first bad sector in each cylinder, and 'firstlast' will show first and last bad sector in each cylinder. If the 'writef6' option is used, ascii hex F6 characters will be written to bad sectors. The 'findbad' environment variable must be set to 'writef6'. It is required that each write is confirmed by pressing 'y' unless an 'allowwrites' parameter (max 1000) is entered. NOTE: Bad sectors are sectors that cannot be read correctly. It is possible to read bad sectors, but the result is not reliable. Also bad sectors may not really be bad, there can be some other problem with the disk system. Using Findbad to write to the disk may prevent recovery of files, that would be otherwise recoverable.
